WHOA BUSY

So every weekend has been 'the best weekend ever' lately. Now, I'm having just as much fun whether I'm at home or at school or gallivanting through foreign cities.

I should probably start with Thursday, because I wrote a letter to Sara and watched Howl's Moving Castle. That was awesome!

Friday was fantastically fun from the start. It was class registration day, so I had to be up for 7:30. My plan was to take Elementary German, French Introduction to Literary and Textual Analysis [a three hundred level class, YAY], Mathematics from a Cultural Perspective [a.k.a. bullshit math to complete my general education requirement], and either Ancient Greek Religions [to complete a religion/philosophy gen. ed.] or Tonal Theory [it's the 'next step' from music theory]. Completely by coincidence, in building this schedule, I would have had no Fridays and nothing before 10:25. Well math was full, obviously, and theory had a lab that I overlooked, which conflicts with German, and Greek religions was full too. So somehow I ended up with this schedule:
MONDAY: Intro to European History, 9-9:50; French, 10:25-11:40; German, 11:50-12:40.
TUESDAY: History of Modern Philosophy, 10:25-11:40
WEDNESDAY: European History, 9-9:50; French, 10:25-11:40; German, 11:50-12:40.
THURSDAY: History of Modern Philosophy, 10:25-11:40; German, 11:50-12:40
FRIDAY: Intro to European History, 9-9:50.

After that nightmare, I decided to go back to sleep until about 9:30, but I hit the off button on my alarm and didn't wake up until 10:10! I quickly got ready, muttering profanities to myself, and made it to German in time. I'm really happy that I get to have the same German teacher for the next semestre, because he's super awesome.

After class, I came back to my room, but I didn't have German homework to do because we have a test on Monday, so I just chilled out. Wendy was still asleep. Dan came up and knocked on my door and invited me to lunch. So he and I and Ariana all went and ate, and I met a person who seems pretty cool named Emily. After lunch, I think we were headed to Ariana's room, but we never quite made it, and we sort of sat down in the hallway just feet away from her door. They started tickling me [*cry*] but then I remembered, "Hey, isn't Dan ticklish?" and so we tickled him instead. And all of the people from our house who walked by were, well, confused.

Eventually, there was dinner with a bunch of friends. At seven [I missed Jeopardy! :'( ] there was BALLROOM DANCE CLUB! Only a few people showed up, but it was still a lot of fun, and I got to swing with Tom. After the club, Ariana, Tanaha, and I walked to the Coast Guard Academy for a dance. There were significantly less Coasties this time, but Tanaha still managed to dance with all of them ;D . Dan showed up after a while, too.

When the dance was over, we walked back to Conn and Ariana invited us to her room for tea. We actually made it there that time. We listened to Stephen Lynch and Bill Cosby. Dan fell asleep on the floor and Ariana and I chatted until three, at which point we woke Dan up, but it was amusing because he was really confused. Wendy's guests were still in our room, so I just grabbed my blanket and Blankie and went back to Ariana's room and slept in her big chair.

Saturday was another fun day. We slept through the pancake breakfast that Melanie had invited us to [oh dear] and we had 'brunch' at 12:15. I made a waffle. Yes.

Ariana and Dan and I had planned a Jeeves & Wooster and teddy bears tea party for that afternoon at three in the common room. I was very surprised at the great turn-out! Lots of people, lots of teddies, and for three hours we watched half of the first season (three episodes, each being about an hour long). I'm so glad I brought my DVDs, and even more glad that I found a fellow fan and even more friends who were willing to watch!

We also saw Doubt that night at eight. Dan sat on my right and Danny on my left, and I started freaking out, "I'm surrounded by Dans!!" Not that I'm not used to that or anything... [just look at my LHS friends...] The play was really wonderful. I will copy/paste my crummy reaction paper thing at the end of this entry. And then we watched Tonari no Totoro!!! AAAH. Dan's first time hahaha. I love that movie ♥♥

Sunday was considerably less productive, probably due to the jam-packed-ness of the days prior. We had brunch together again, and then we went our separate ways.

I tried to be productive and write a journal for my freshmen seminar or my reaction to Doubt, but that didn't go over very well. I basically ended up sitting on my bed for a few hours doing absolutely nothing. Finally, I convinced myself to catch up on Fringe! Haha. Yay for productivity?

I wandered down the hall into 313 and found everyone sitting around in there, working, and they said they'd be eating soon, so I went with them.

There was also a Blackstone [my dorm] Thanksgiving party in the common room at eight, so I went to that. Awesome! We made s'mores in the fireplace and drank cider, and just generally had a really happy time with our fellow house people. Ariana and Dan tickled me again -__-;; Bo too. Stupid people, haha. The party died down pretty much after all the food disappeared, but Ariana, Dan, and I stayed to make sure we didn't burn the house down. I brought myself to study German a little and help someone with music theory, and I went to sleep around midnight. It seemed like a pretty cliché Sunday night, like something you might read in an old book, but it was good. Very happy-making.

Today was wonderful because I had two tests - one in German and one in Music Theory - both of which were mildly challenging, but not so much. Once again finished theory with forty minutes left, left class early, and I got to go practise! Yay!

I'm so happy with the bassoon the school gave me because it has such a great sound, especially compared to the LHS one.

Oh and House was super awesome today!

Doubt
I had the opportunity to see the first run-through of Doubt, and I was very impressed. I kept telling people, “It’s going to be great; definitely go see it!” Even so, I was still surprised by the end product (Saturday, 21 November, 8pm). Of course, knowing the show beforehand, I didn’t get the same shocks and emotions as the first viewing, same as Tempest, but I still loved the production.
The setting was fantastic. I was very impressed by the floor of the stage: I loved the way that it faded gently from indoor tile to garden stone, and how that played into the staging, since all of the office scenes were set towards the left and all of the garden scenes were on the right. The costuming and music all fit very well with both the play itself and the time period in which it takes place. The Mozart had an especially poignant effect after the climax.
I also think all four actors were great. (You may have noticed by now that I’m not very good at being critical…) Mrs. Muller was especially great. She really seemed as if she were hearing the words for the first time, sitting in that office, and though she only had one scene, she left a memorable performance. The only performance that I thought was a little weak was Sister James, and even she was very good. There were some parts, especially at the very beginning, where she didn’t seem completely into the character yet, but she overcame it, and when she was in character, she, too, was great.

Boston, and then some!

The big thing about this weekend was that our prospies were coming. That's prospective students. Wendy had two, so we dragged extra mattresses from student storage and put them in our room, covered with our extra blankets. Greg and Arianna were late in leaving New Jersey. At school, we were having a party. Benito ordered food from a Dominican restaurant in New London, and he was flirting it up with the woman on the phone, and dying over the fact that they didn't have yuca frita. When the food arrived, we opened it up, and saw on the very top a box labelled "Yuca Frita, on the house! Enjoy!" We and the prospies enjoyed the meal, and finally Greg and Arianna arrived at eleven-thirty pm.

They walked in on an entire room of college students and some high school seniors seated around an empty cake pan, colouring pages ripped from colouring books with crayons. I showed them around my building and then bought them coffee and soda at Cro, and then we were on our way, about two hours behind schedule.

We finally got into Boston at 2. Needless to say, Liam was not impressed, but I was when I saw his dorm. The building had been converted from an old hotel - the hotel in which Eugene O'Neill died - and it had a lobby, an elevator, and hotel style rooms. I thought it was pretty nifty, but Sara says that it has the worst food. Since it was so late, we just got ready for bed and went right to sleep, end of story.

The next morning, Liam had to leave at eleven, which gave me time to wander around and explore a little. I found a bagel shop, which is not Finagle-A-Bagel and had a nice long brunch there. Long, mostly because I had time to kill and because I didn't want to go out in the rain.

I found my way to Sara's building for a quick visit, and she told me how to get to Liam's play. He was in the student-run production of The Iceman Cometh by Eugene O'Neill, and he played Parritt. I'd like to say that he was fantastic and it's not because I am biased. He, Hope, Larry, and the bartender were, in my opinion, the best actors in the play. Really amusing: during the climax, when all the people leave the bar, the door fell down on one of the whores. It was sort of amazing.

After the play, I congratulated Liam, and then I figured out where Greg was. He was at Harvard with Justina and Debanjan, so I called Sara and we figured out how to get there by the T, the Boston train, if you don't know. My phone died! I had to use a payphone to call Greg, and luckily I found them in Harvard Square! DJ had a meeting to get to, so I only got to see him for like half an hour. We got ice cream and coffee in a place called the Garage, and then Justina dragged us into Urban Outfitter's 'Bargain Basement'. In Harvard Square, there is a fob store that is largely Totoro themed and there is a Curious George store as well.

Then we went back to Tufts, and Justina found someone on her floor who had a charger I could borrow [thank goodnessssss!]. Greg and Justina had tickets to a comedy show, so I sat in her room for the duration. Mostly, I was just thankful to be charging my phone, and I got to go on Facebook and chat with Andrea and Viggi. When they came back, we hung out for a while, talking to kids in the hall. When Greg and Justina started getting ready to go to a No Pants Party, I decided it was time to go back to Sara's at BU.

When Liam had signed me in on Friday night, he signed me in as a one-night guest, so I couldn't get back into the building on my own. Since he had a cast party, I had to contact his roommate and ask if he'd let me in but he couldn't until about two. I stayed in Sara's really tiny room [but they have a HUGE closet!] and chatted with her, and we decided it would be a lot more fun if I slept in her room for that second night. At two, I walked down the street to Liam's dorm, where Stevhen let me in, and I got my things and walked back up the street. It's really cool that they're neighbours, but weird that Sara and Liam don't know each other, lol. And then we went to sleep.

Sunday, Greg and Arianna showed up bright and early [not really, it was like ten] and I said goodbye to Sara and headed back to Conn. Once there, I brought Arianna and Greg to brunch with Andrea and Kelsey and Benito and Dan and a million other people because none of us had eaten before we'd left Boston. When it came time to leave, we said our goodbyes, and Arianna gave me Kenny's fedora to keep until Thanksgiving.

That night, as if it wasn't a fun and busy enough weekend, I helped Dan make a "Welcome Back" poster out of leaves, and then Andrea, Dan, and I watched a French entitled Mon Meilleur Ami, with Daniel Auteuil [La Fille Sur Le Pont, Jean de Florette, Manon de la Source, etc.]. It was really funny and very touching.

What an amazing weekend!! :D

But the fun didn't stop there!
Would you like to know the silly thing I did on Monday, 16 November? I got back from my last class at 2:30 and sat around. I'd decided to waste time until my 3:30 German Lab. But something kept not feeling right, the closer I got to 3:30, the less I wanted to go to the lab. So at twenty after, I finally wrapped up what I was doing, grabbed my packpack, and headed out. I got halfway to the building when I realised... German lab is on Tuesdays. That was not Tuesday. And I promptly turned around and came back to my dorm.

And the exciting news from today:
Now, Uncle Yo is easily my favourite [stand up] comedian. If you know anything about me, you know that, lol. So, he's releasing a DVD of the performance that I went to over the summer, and is holding a fan art cover contest for it. Over Halloween weekend, I crafted my design from this photo, from that same event. Tonight, I finally sent in my designs, one black and white that I drew, and one that I coloured in with a Photoshop trial. Really awesome? He emailed me back with "This is awesome! my favorite entry so far. Is my face sinking into a sea of blood? 'Cause that's badass!" And I can't stop freaking out about how amazing that is.

Oh yeah, and we threw a birthday party for our friend and neighbour, Eric.

Fall Weekend

October 23-25 was Fall weekend! This is also known as Parents' Weekend, and Harvestfest. We have a lot of events on campus for students, alumni, and parents, and on Saturday, we have a Harvestfest sale, which is basically a huge fundraiser for the dorms and clubs, etc. So Mum came up, and I was really happy that she did. It was cool, getting to see everyone's parents and families, but it was better getting to see my own mother. We went exploring the neighbouring towns - the first time I'd been off campus besides coming from and going to either New Jersey or the train station. One night, we had dinner at a really nice pasta place. But it was really cold, and we were sitting outside on the porch. The most exciting part was... this kid and his father came and sat down at the table next to us, and I started freaking out, "MUM THAT KID IS A JEDI!!!" He had short/average length hair [a little longer than a Jedi's, but still 'socially acceptable' for a boy], and one long, thin braid coming from behind his ear, just like Ewan McGregor had in Phantom Menace and Hayden Christiansen had in Attack of the Clones!!!!!!!! Totally made my night. On the Sunday, I watched our school's production of The Tempest, which was great. I also had to work on the strike for a few hours, which wasn't as fun, lol.

Here, I didn't take many pictures that weekend, but these are the window clings I bought that weekend and hung on my window!

Shooting Stars

Been a while, huh? Well over the next few days, I'm going to try to settle down and actually post all the ideas that have been kicking around since basically October. Ideas. Hah! I make it sound like I'm being original or something.

Well around the 20th of October, my roommate informed me that there would be a meteor shower. So, I quickly researched it and realised that the Orionids would be peaking that night at 1am, with an estimated sixty falling in an hour! I went to sleep at ten that night, and woke up at quarter to one. Armed with a sweatshirt and fluffy socks, and a group of friends carrying a giant fluffy blanket, I headed out to the green. We staked out a spot, and we all squeezed onto the big fluffy blanket. And the staring commenced. Other people came and found their own spots nearby, and some just sat on top of us *coughAlexandrecough*. It was pretty miraculous, because the sky here is so gorgeous. We could see planets, satellites, and stars. The sky is actually black here, as opposed to home, where we get this awkward orange colour for most of the night. I grew cold and tired, so I went back to my dorm at 1:30, but in that short half hour, I had witnessed seven really good shooting stars, and many other, less brilliant ones. It was incredible, and I'm looking forward to the next one, if there is one, before it gets freezing out.

Halloween

The week before Halloween, I felt ill. I almost skipped classes because of it [but didn't], and I wanted nothing more than to be at home with Mum taking care of me. I'd call her almost every day and I'd cry daily, too. I felt so out of place and like I needed to get out. There's nothing I want more when I'm sick to be safe at home in my own bed with my mommie taking care of me.

So Friday afternoon, after a week of begging, I packed my things and caught a four o'clock Amtrak right into New York. Sitting in the New London station, Mum called to make sure I'd gotten a ticket and hadn't missed the train. She then asked if I'd remembered my costume and I assured her I did... until I realised I FORGOT MY HAT IN MY CLOSET!!! AAAAUGHHH. That was pleasant. Later, we got held up for about twenty minutes waiting for two other trains to pass. When we finally got into NYC I ran from the Amtrak to the NJTransit, so scared that I'd missed the connection because of the twenty minute delay. I got on just as it was about to leave, found my seat, and breathed a sigh of relief.

Arianna picked me up at the train station in South Orange. We drove back to my house, and I asked her if she'd like to come to dance with me. I put on my Halloween costume, and fitted her with a cape and a feather boa, and left. That's when I realised I'd forgotten my camera, too. *Cry* But, I had a lot of fun. None of the teachers knew I was coming, so they were all delightfully surprised. I loved everyone's costumes, too! I wish I could still dance as regularly as I had been. Sigh.

After the dance, we decided to visit the marching band. Where would they be? Applebee's, naturally! So we went. Again, everyone was quite surprised. I had a lot of fun catching up with people. Since I was still in my costume, I told David Li, "Look, I have something to show you!" I proceeded to take off my jacket and model for him: "This is a purple vest." He groans. It was awesome.

Finally, I decided I needed to go home. It had been a long day, and I'd been home for hours and still had yet to see my mother.

Saturday was Halloween. That was pretty awesome. In the morning, Mum and I did trivial things, and then we bought bubble tea [yay].

I showed up, fully clothed as Willy Wonka, at Eric's house, much to the relative surprise of everyone present. It was Tilly's birthday, too, and she turned twelve, so I took her out with us. We trick-or-treated in Eric's general neighbourhood, even after it started raining. Poor Tilly got so scared because of the noises from a haunted house. We went back to Eric's for dinner, and after a while, decided to continue trick-or-treating in my and Jesson's own neighbourhood. We even looked for Ying, but she was no where to be found.

Eventually, Oli and everyone else went back, but Jesson and I went to Ying's house and talked with her for a while. Afterwards, we went to Vigg's house because that jerk refused to pick me up from the train station [lol]. It felt like we were crashing something... 'cuz we sort of were... oh well... And Jesson was happy because he got his money back.

Well we had made up our mind to go back to Eric's, again, but Vigg didn't want to go along, so we left him.

At Eric's, we decided to watch Watchmen, the director's cut. It was really awesome, but I couldn't stay up and realised I had to go home. I needed to wake up in the morning! But I really wanted to watch Watchmen, so I put it on in the background while I slept haha.

Sunday was an emotional day. I did not want to return to school. I was just sad and wished I could stay at home forever. Well, we got into a huge traffic jam. Mum said that some dignitary was coming through, which is why they would have closed off the most important roads. When we got to the station, she asked someone, and they told her that it was the president himself, driving through Newark, of all places. Well, despite being late, I didn't miss my train. The trains were two hours or more delayed, so, after much debating, begging, and persuading, we decided to switch my ticket for a cheaper one on Monday that wouldn't get in until after all my classes were over. That was great. I feel like that really was what I needed.

As upsetting a day as Monday was, having to leave, I felt okay finally to be going back. I mean, obviously I'd have rather stayed at home, but I didn't feel like I was going to freak out and break down on my way to school. That's good, I suppose lol. But as if coming back to school wasn't bad enough in my current state, one of the first things I did when I got back to my room was to break my little purple dinosaur! I started crying and couldn't stop no matter how hard I tried. Crappy day.

But overall, a wonderful weekend.

I Am a Slacker!

Just thought I should make you aware of several new posts at not-studying! Castle, Fringe, Castle, and House.
You can look forward to some posts about new music and three episodes of Heroes I need to catch up on, as well as all the other things I've promised to write about here. Oh, and check this out for the lulz.

Sesame Street 40th Anniversary!

I used to 'collect' the splash images from Google back in the Xanga days. I think I'm going to start doing that again.

A Little Colder Than Fall Has Been So Far

This is one of those days. One of those beautiful, fall days, when the sun starts going down as early as four, leaving the sky a pale shade of sunless blue and white. Most of the trees are now bare, though some still retain their colourful leaves. Everything is turning to a brown, deadish colour, and the dramatic reds and oranges are yesterday's memory. As you walk down the sidewalk, you shove your hands deep in your pocket, or pull your sweater a little tighter around you, remarking on what a 'warm' day it had been, and how did it suddenly get so cold? The crisp air feels like candy to your lungs that have been fed on indoor air all day. It's one of those days. The kind that bring you a very strong sense of nostalgia, and you wonder where the days have gone. You start thinking of Thanksgiving, family you haven't seen in a long time, and even the old days back in elementary school, when you had to start wearing those big fluffy coats and you couldn't go out to recess until you figured out how to zip it up yourself. You breathe a sigh as you walk back from dinner, admiring the large, yellow moon, and you see your breath form a cloud that rises before your face.

The only thing missing is fencing practise.

Zombies Take Over My College

The week leading up to Halloween, I started seeing Nerf Guns carried around campus. It was the start of Humans vs. Zombies. Every semestre, a bunch of students sign up to play, and one is chosen at random to be infected with the zombie virus. A zombie needs to feed, and if he doesn't feed for forty-eight hours, he dies. Now the humans need to defend themselves. A rolled up ball of socks or Nerf gun ammunition is enough to stun a zombie for fifteen minutes, giving them just enough time to get away, but if they're tagged, they turn into zombies.

All week, I got to see kids walking around packing Nerf Guns in their coats, pockets, and backpacks. Kids became very paranoid. Some stopped going to dinner because it put them in too much danger.

Overall, it was a very surreal week and it brought smiles to my face and I felt sad when I saw that someone was turned. Very weird thing to get caught up in, really.

Mess of Me

So it would be really awesome if you would check this out. Because it's REALLY AWESOME.
