The week leading up to Halloween, I started seeing Nerf Guns carried around campus. It was the start of Humans vs. Zombies. Every semestre, a bunch of students sign up to play, and one is chosen at random to be infected with the zombie virus. A zombie needs to feed, and if he doesn't feed for forty-eight hours, he dies. Now the humans need to defend themselves. A rolled up ball of socks or Nerf gun ammunition is enough to stun a zombie for fifteen minutes, giving them just enough time to get away, but if they're tagged, they turn into zombies.
All week, I got to see kids walking around packing Nerf Guns in their coats, pockets, and backpacks. Kids became very paranoid. Some stopped going to dinner because it put them in too much danger.
Overall, it was a very surreal week and it brought smiles to my face and I felt sad when I saw that someone was turned. Very weird thing to get caught up in, really.
